Step 3 is the final examination in the USMLE sequence leading to a license to practice medicine in the United States without supervision. Step 3 provides a final assessment of physicians assuming independent responsibility for delivering general medical care.
If you need your Step 3 scores before March 25, 2020, you should test no later than December 31.
The Step 3 minimum passing score will be reviewed in December. If there is a change, the new score will become effective for all examinees who take Step 3 on or after January 1, 2020.
2020 Eligibility Periods are now available. The 2020 Step 3 fee is $895. Also, keep in mind that USMLE is not given during the first two weeks of January.

The Step 3 application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable from one eligibility period to another or from one application to another. Your application fee can only be paid by American Express, MasterCard or Visa.
The 2019 fee is $875.
The 2020 fee will be $895.
If the name on your government-issued identification does not match your Scheduling Permit exactly, you will not be permitted to take your exam.
Use the Name Change/Correction Authorization Form to change or correct your name. Evidence of the change/correction must also be submitted.
Submission of a CID does NOT constitute an application for Step 3. You must ALSO submit an online Step 3 application and fees in order for FSMB to complete your Step 3 registration. Communication about the status of your Step 3 registration does not begin until your online application has been submitted.
A CID is required for all Step 3 applications unless a valid one is already on file. Approved CIDs from prior Step 3 applications are valid for 5 years
A recheck of your Step 3 score will be done upon submission of the recheck form and $80 fee. Your request must be received no more than 90 days after your score report release date.
For all Steps, standard procedures ensure that the scores reported for you accurately reflect your performance. A change in score based on a recheck is an extremely remote possibility.
The $80 fee is non-refundable.
You can request a one-time contiguous 3-month extension of your original eligibility period. Requests can only be submitted after your original scheduling permit is available and must be received no later than 25 days after the end of your original eligibility period.
The $70 processing fee is non-refundable.
Requests for test accommodations must be made in writing at the time the Step 3 application is submitted.
