Apply for Membership
In addition to its state medical board membership, the FSMB provides several categories of membership for organizations and individuals interested in medical regulatory issues. These membership categories include:
FSMB Affiliate Members
A board or authority that is not otherwise eligible for FSMB membership may become an Affiliate Member of the FSMB upon approval of its application by the Board of Directors if the entity licenses either:
- Allopathic or osteopathic physicians or physician assistants in the United States; or
- Allopathic or osteopathic physicians if the board or authority is located in another country.
Benefits for FSMB Affiliate Members include:
- Special seating at the Annual Business Meeting of the FSMB House of Delegates.
- Eligibility for appointment to FSMB Standing and Special committees or other appointive capacities.
- Invitations to attend FSMB educational events.
- Opportunities to network with various licensing and disciplinary agencies within the medical regulatory community.
- Access to free online CME offerings.
- Access to FSMB Roundtable “boards only” conference calls.
- Complimentary subscription to Journal of Medical Regulation.
- Access to FSMB publications such as newsletters, white papers, and brochures.
- Special seating at FSMB House of Delegates meetings.
Annual dues for FSMB Affiliate Members: $800

FSMB Official Observers
An organization may apply for Official Observer status at the Annual Business Meeting of the FSMB House of Delegates.
Benefits for FSMB Official Observers include:
- Special seating at the Annual Business Meeting of the FSMB House of Delegates.
- Eligibility for appointment to FSMB Standing and Special committees or other appointive capacities.
- Opportunities to network with various licensing and disciplinary agencies within the medical regulatory community.
- Invitations to attend FSMB educational events.
- Access to free online CME offerings.
- Access to FSMB Roundtable “boards only” conference calls.
- Complimentary subscription to Journal of Medical Regulation.

FSMB Courtesy Members
The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) greatly appreciates your interest in becoming a Courtesy Member. This special category of membership allows any physician licensed by one of the FSMB's 70 member boards (and not eligible for any other type of FSMB membership) to engage in a wide range of membership activities. FSMB Courtesy Members do not have to serve on a state medical board.
Benefits for FSMB Courtesy Members include:
- Special seating at the Annual Business Meeting of the FSMB House of Delegates.
- Eligibility to serve on FSMB committees or in any other capacity upon appointment by the Chair.
- Invitations to attend FSMB educational events.
